Visual Arts

Through the Visual Arts Program, Mansion Day School students learn the fundamentals of art, explore the principles of design, experiment with various materials, and understand that the history of art is a record of different civilizations and cultures. Exploration is encouraged as a means of sparking the students’ imagination.

Big ideas, such as identity, community, narrative, and cultural customs, are explored through investigations of artwork from pre-historic to the modern 21st century, including local and historical African American artists.

The curriculum encourages students to think imaginatively and approach the arts with confidence. Students utilize a variety of art materials and mediums that include:

  • Drawing
  • Painting
  • Clay
  • Fiber
  • Collage
  • Pastels
