Music & Performing Arts

Music & Performing Arts

The Arts bring harmony and balance to academic life, deepening and extending learning through music, drama, movement, and fine arts. Students develop a lasting appreciation and understanding of the role of aesthetics. Music thrives at Mansion Day School and basic music exposure begins in Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten classes, where music is interwoven throughout the curriculum.

The Primary music program is designed to encourage children’s natural enthusiasm for music. For many children, this is their first experience with any type of structured music class. Students learn to recognize and demonstrate the basic musical elements of melody, rhythm, harmony, texture, tempo, dynamics, timbre, and form. Students begin to learn how to read and write music in preparation for learning to play the recorder in second grade and are exposed to different styles of music from different genres and composers through listening as well as music activities.

Students are introduced to instrumental music instruction in the second grade. New skills are taught by expanding on the foundations of students’ prior learning. Learning to work together as an ensemble is introduced.

Our Performing Arts program is designed to awaken the talent in every student. Mansion Day School has four performances during the school year that showcase our students through original musical productions. Each production allows students to expand their creativity and knowledge in acting, dancing, and singing. Our Performing Arts program heightens our students’ confidence as we prepare them for the larger stage of life.
